I am getting this error with the latest 5.4.0 update as well. All other updates went smoothly, or even unoticed in the background, but when trying to access the store to check out the E3 demos, it said I needed to update and then got stuck in this loop. I've tried turning my phone into a hotspot, removing the external hard drive and smash adapter. All my games are digital so I visit the eshop pretty regularly, the last games I bought were Don't Starve and the humble bundle. Splatoon works online and doesn't require an update, but the eshop is a problem. Please fix this botched update.

Can't download the new SSB4 patch
I tried updating SSB4 on my Wii U, but it stopped at 5% and the whole system froze, then i got an error code and hhad to shut off my system. Now, whenever i try to update SSB4, the bar stops at about 5% then never moves again, yet the timer still goes on.
Re: Splatoon error code 104-0717
And they haven't called me back. What do I do now?
Wii U Strange Behavior
So I have had my Wii U ever since launch day 2012, and this is the first time i have had an issue with it. Basically, I turned it on this morning, and it worked perfectly fine. I played Super Smash Bros. for about 2 hours and then turned it off for a while. When i came back, i turned it on and everything seemed normal, but then the screen started glitching up. The pixels showed up in the wrong places as if the Wii U had no idea what it was doing. During this time, the Wii U was frozen too.
After several attemps of swapping cables and waiting, now the console will simply not display a picture on the TV or the GamePad. The GamePad always says it cannot connect to the Wii U console.
Is there any way to fix this issue? Or will I have to send it in for repair? And if i do send it for repair, Will I be able to keep my Save data?
Thanks.
Re: Error code : 162-3006 what means?
Heeey, it fixed itself. Thanks Nintendo!
Gamepad works sometimes, not other times
My Wii U started acting funny and now my gamepad will work if I have the gamepad screen set to the miiverse option, but when I set it to the regular menu only the shoulder buttons, x and b (for sure) work. Any ideas?
New Wii U Gamepad won't Sync.
Hi I just bought a new Wii U and can't seem to get the gamepad to sync.
I hit both the sync buttons on the console and controller and when I enter the shapes into the Gamepad it says it can't sync and i need to move the controller closer to the console...I've tried it with the Gamepad literally RIGHT IN FRONT of the console....
Any ideas? It's new brand new and I'm somewhat disappointed.
How to go about returning wii u with pre downloaded games
I'm returning my wii u with pre downloaded Mario 3d world and Nintendo land. So are my games linked to my Nintendo Id or can I just delete the memory without loosing the games. And returning it. Thanks in advanced.
Re: Wii U Strange Behavior
The exact same thing happened to my son today while playing the exact same game. I can't get the wifi u to display anything on the tv and the game pad won't detect.

Wii U Splatoon "A Communication Error Has Occurred." When Joining A Friend.
Why when I try joining a friend's regular match in Splatoon I get "A Communication Error Has Occurred." every time?
I can play matches normally, it only happens when I try joining him.
I've tried:
- Manually entering network info on Wii U
- Opening NAT
- Enable DMZ
- Port-Forwarding
- Changing DNS on Wii U.
my friend has tried doing the same things listed above.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Wii U Strange Behavior
Maybe this has to do with the new SSB4 update. Have you tried updating SSB4 or your Wii U?
Can I use an external hard drive on both the we you and Xbox 360?
Re: Can I use an external hard drive on both the we you and Xbox 360?
Wii U* And no, you can not use an external hard drive on the system but I believe you can on the Xbox. Anywho, this isn't a question that involves any tech support considering this is 'Nintendo's Tech Support Forums' (notice how I underlined Nintendo hence the Xbox is indeed not a Nintendo product whatsoever.) So therefore this question has nothing to do with these forums and I request that you remove it.
Have a nice day.

A question regarding using a product with a Nintendo console technically is considered a tech-support issue, as one is attempting to gather information in order to prevent a tech-support related problem.
To the thread-starter, once formatted for a Wii U console, an external hard drive can only be used with your Wii U console. So while both the Wii U and the consoles from MicroSoft may support external hard drives, you'll need one for each console. The Wii U supports external hard drives up to 2 TB in size.
Re: Can I use an external hard drive on both the we you and Xbox 360?
The Wii U can use external hard drives.
And this is Nintendo related, this question is perfectly valid.
To answer the question, no. If you're going to use an external HDD for Wii U, then you should dedicate it to that system and not use it for multiple systems, to avoid data loss.
Nintendo Refunded Money For a Purchase That Went Through
I bought Earthbound Beginnings from the eShop the other day. I paid with my debit card, and the purchase went through, and I was able to download the game successfull. Yet, when I checked my card activity later on, the purchase doesn't show up on my account history, and the $6.99 charge was refunded back to me even though the purchase was successful and I downloaded the item. Already contacted my bank, and they said I should contact the company (Nintendo) in case they try charging or debiting my account. Any advice on where to go from here? I wasn't able to fill out a support ticket, so not sure what to do from here.

Re: Important question regarding network security and the Wii U.
Mistyped. I don't know what WiFi service is used for Wii U, but will I be able to connect to the internet on my Wii U with WPA2 PSK/TKIP and play games that have an online feature?
Re: error code 114-9009
you might want to call nintendo at 1-800-255-3700.
