I have also been having same problem since around the same time as these people stated. There was an update around December or so 2013 and after that update my WII U stopped reading WII discs. I only had 2 of them so I thought perhaps was the discs, even though strange that they had worked before the update.

I recleaned the discs over and over again to make sure I did everything right. The remote for WII games responded correctly even on the game pad screen so it definitely was not the senser bar. I stopped playing for a while then just recently I decided to buy a brand new game of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, since the one I had been using was used. This particular game is very expensive, especially in new factory sealed condition. I managed to get one for $95.00.

I was so excited that I would be able to play that game again, but when I put it in the WII U system and attempted to play it, it did the same thging, unable to read this disc error came up again. Now this makes me belie that my other discs are good as well if a brand new disc fails to be read. I want the old version back, before the December 2013 update,. Everything worked fine before that happened. I've tried restoring to factory and it updates to the new version which does not read WII games.

The real sad thing is, is that if my old game disc is fine then I just spent $95.00 that I didn't need to spend. In addition now that I opened the new one I cannot resell it as new factory sealed anymore and will lose that money and still have same problem & 2 games of the same.

What can be done about this? I honestly believe it was that update in 2013, can I actually download a version of the firmware before December 2013.?

I am truly sorry you spent so much money and still unable to play the game, but unfortunately there is no way to re-download and/or revert back to a previous firmware version.

So really I can kinda only give the same suggestion as in my previous post, and call Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, or use their (webform<--- new webform url) to contact them, and one of the service representatives will be able to help you.
