Again, covering your console, even after it has cooled down, can pose a fire hazard. For example, if there should be some type of malfunction and the console or a connected cord sparks, the covering may catch fire. Or if your console should somehow come on during the night or while you're away and the intake and exhaust vents are covered, this could cause your system to overheat, either damaging the internal workings of the console, or again, causing a fire if the system becomes hot enough.
Both the intake and exhaust vents should have at least 4 inches of open space around them, and you should never place anything, including the Wii U GamePad, on top of of the console.
If you are worried about dust, you can safely remove dust from the casing of your console using a soft cloth or your hand.
